Roanoke Island, North Carolina is Our Home. It is the County Seat for Dare County and is composed of three separate areas - The Fishing Village of Wanchese on the south end of the island, the Village of Manteo in the middle of the island, and unincorporated parts of Dare County constituting the rest of the island. There are three bridges accessing Roanoke Island - The 5.2 mile Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge cuts across Croatan Sound from Mann's Harbor on the mainland and is the longest bridge in North Carolina, the old William B. Umstead Bridge which was replaced by the Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge, and the Washington Baum Bridge which connects Roanoke Island to the Outer Banks at Nags Head across the Roanoke Sound.
